Barnett Wood Infant School

Sports Premium

Please read the information below which gives details of our PE and Sport Premium Grant and how we allocate the funding.

The government stress the importance of all children living a healthy and active life and advocate the many benefits of physical activity for their health, mental and emotional well-being, including increasing self-esteem.  Access to sufficient daily activity can also have wider benefits for pupils and schools, improving behaviour as well as enhancing academic achievement.

The PE and Sport Premium fund provides £320m of government funding, allocated to schools directly for them to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of the PE, physical activity and sport offered in their setting.

The Sport Premium funding will be used in line with our aims to achieve our school vision.

With this funding we aim to:

  • Encourage healthy lifestyles;
  • Offer the children new experiences by offering the number of different sports that our children can take part in at school;
  • Increase the opportunities for physical activity within school.
  • Build capacity and capability within the school to ensure that improvements made now will benefit pupils joining the school in future years

Members of staff and governors to decide ways in which funding can be spent to enhance our PE provision and provide new, exciting ways to broaden our children’s sporting experiences.

How is the funding calculated?

Schools receive PE and sport premium funding based on the number of pupils in years 1 to 6. In most cases, it is determined by how many pupils there are in a school using data from the previous year's January school census.

Allocation of funds is split into two payments.
