Barnett Wood Infant School

Newsletters & Information in Book Bags

As of February 2019...

THE FRIENDS ARE PAPERLESS

All Friends communications are now sent:

- via ParentMail
- via the Friends Facebook page and the class Facebook groups
- via the Friends noticeboard in the playground (by the side pencil gates)

As part of our ongoing environmental commitment, we are wanting to cut down on the amount of needless paper going out in bookbags so won’t be sending out regular comms via that way any more unless needed.

If you have trouble accessing emails or the social media channels, printed copies of all information can be requested via the office.

Newsletters - School Year 2019/2020

Friends of Barnett Wood
Newsletter February 2020

The Friends committee hope you are all having a great 2020 so far and are looking forward to the half term break.
We have had three fantastic events so far this school year, I just wanted to let you all know how much we have raised for the school so far.

Bake & Taste Morning
Thank you so much for all those who baked/brought cakes and came along to taste them all and help out. It was one of our busiest yet and we raised just under £500.

Christmas Fair
This was our first big event of the year. Again, many thanks to those who helped before the day, during the day and clearing away afterwards. The children all had a lovely time and we had a great day raising a massive £3,924 which is just incredible (over £1000 more than last year). Thank you so much.
Big thanks also to Hamptons who sponsored our fair and for the money they donated, with thanks going also to all the families who had a promotional board up for us – your support is so appreciated.

Children's Disco
This is always a great evening for the children, thank you so much to Rachel Fokes and her team of parents who pulled the whole evening together and to all those who volunteered to help. There was some great dancing on display and lots of fun had.

Upcoming Events
Quiz Night - Friday February 28th
A fun evening for parents/carers to get together to test their knowledge on just about everything. Tables are ON SALE NOW via the school office with only a few left so please sign up and join us. Start time of 7.30pm – bring your own drinks and nibbles. £5 per person – max 8 per team.

Easter Egg Hunt – Sunday March 29th
Save the date - More details to follow

Colour Run – Sunday May 17th
The kids always LOVE this event and its really FUN - it would be great if a few people could VOLUNTEER to HELP organise things this year. Please speak to me or Sarah Sanders if you can help.

Friends of Barnett Wood
Newsletter September 2019

The Friends committee hope you all had a great summer holiday and welcome you back to this school year, also a big welcome to all our new reception parents/ carers.

As a new/existing parent at Barnett Wood, you automatically become a member of the Friends. Don’t worry, there is no membership fee! There are, however, lots of activities the Friends are involved in and lots of ways you can join in and help the school.

Just in case anyone is unsure of what we do, the Friends are a group of parents who organise various fundraising and social events throughout the academic year.  Our main events are the Christmas Fair and Summer Fair, along with an Easter Egg hunt, colour run, quiz night, children's disco and a few others.  This past year through event fundraising only we raised over £10,000.
We raise funds to run our fabulous swimming pool, keep our school technology up to date and help our children enjoy this school as much as possible, both in and outside the classroom.
We are always on the lookout for more parents to join the Friends committee or parents with ideas on new ways to raise money.

We have a full calendar of Friends events planned but at the moment these are TBC pending volunteers to help organise them as we don’t have an Events Coordinator at this time. If this position is not filled at the AGM, I will be asking for volunteers to help organise each event nearer the time on a case by case basis as I can’t do it all by myself. If we aren’t able to get a small team per event to organise things, some events may not go ahead this year, but I will keep you updated as we progress through the school year.

I will be looking for volunteers to help organise the following events if anyone is keen to put themselves forward:
Bake and Taste coffee morning (October ’19)
School disco (January ’20)
Quiz night (February ’20)
Easter Egg Hunt (March ’20)
Colour Run (May ’20)

The Christmas Fair and Summer Fair will be a whole school effort as usual with all classes allocated stalls – thank you in advance for all your help and support.

Paper & Plastic FREE
The Friends continue with our commitment this year to be paper and plastic free as much as possible

Plastic – we will continue to use biodegradable cups and cutlery for all our event refreshments and to use recyclable/ plastic free bags for our lucky bags and games stalls at events.
*PLEASE RECYCLE ALL THESE MATERIALS AT EVENTS AND HELP US PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT*

Paper – we also continue to be paper free so all Friends communications will come via the Friends Facebook page and class Facebook pages, the school ParentMail system, class reps and via the Friends noticeboard in the playground

*Please make sure to join our Facebook page ‘Friends of Barnett Wood School’ for more info and updates and to register with your class Facebook group where possible*
