Reception 2025-26

Welcome to Hedgehogs' and Squirrels' page, where you can find regular updates
on our news and learning!!

Take a look at our half termly learning!

Week beginning 2nd February 2026

Reception have loved continuing their 'On the move' topic this week. This week our focus was on emergency vehicles and we were so lucky to have a visit from the police with their police car and the firefighters with their fire engine! The children loved having the opportunity to sit in the police car and see the sirens. They also had the chance to use the firefighter's hose! Perhaps we have some future firefighters or police officers in our midst?!

Phonics This week we have been reading longer words, including words with two syllables. We have used the chunking method to help us read, for example reading carpark as car and park and putting it together. Next week we will be revising this half terms learning.

Maths We have become super speedy at saying the pairs of numbers that go together to make 5. Next week we will be building on this learning to help us understand the composition of 6 and 7.

Maths vocabulary 5 and a bit, composition, represent, die frame, die pattern

Literacy We are learning to write instructions. We began by planting beans and then creating a story map to help us remember the order of what we did.

Have a great weekend!

Another busy week in Reception! We are really enjoying our 'On the move!' topic and finding out about lots of different types of transport. Achiever's Assembly Reception now join the rest of the school to attend Achiever's Assembly on a Friday. 2 children from each class are chosen to receive a Headteacher's Award. This is given for something linked to their learning that has happened during the week. Additionally, 1 child from each class will receive a Values Award. This is given to a child who has demonstrated our school values. This is really special and the children look forward to who might get a certificate!

Reading Raffle Children get a raffle ticket each time they read at home. We count this on a Friday and then a ticket is drawn during assembly. The winner gets to choose a prize! Please remember we expect children to read 3 times at home each week.

Reminder Children may bring ONE small pocket toy to school if they need it for support during lunchtime only.  Thank you for your help with this!

Have a fantastic weekend!
