We would also like to say a massive thank you for the incredibly kind and generous gifts from the whole Year 1 team. They were so thoughtful and truly appreciated—we are very grateful.

Below are some lovely photos from our final week before Christmas, capturing lots of smiles, fun, and festive cheer.

We wish you all a very happy, relaxing, and joyful Christmas, and look forward to seeing you in the New Year! 🎅✨

Christmas Performance 2025

Angels

Dear Parents,

Your child is going to be an angel in this year’s performance.

Please provide the following costume, in a labelled bag, on Friday 12th December: a white t-shirt and white tights or leggings. No wings or halos.

Thank you.

Shepherds/Innkeepers

Dear Parents,

Your child is going to be a shepherd/innkeeper in the Christmas Performance.

Please supply their costume in a labelled carrier bag on Friday 12th

December: a long t shirt with tights or trousers, a check headdress (tea towel). The band securing the headdress needs to be easy to put on and keep it in place. A tea towel and some platted tights should do the job.

This week we finished our Little Red Riding Hood stories. We wrote a detailed character description of our new villain, a bear or fox. Next week we will be learning a new model text for English - How to trap the big bad wolf.

Maths - for the next 2 weeks we  are looking at 2D and 3D shapes. we have named them and talked about their properties. We will be completing our shape booklets. Today we went on a 3D shape hunt around the school. What 3D shapes can you spot at home?

DT - This week we made apple crumble! Everyone really enjoyed following the recipe and tasting our crumble. We have also designed our angels for Art DT morning, the kit list is in your book bag. The letter is saved here as a reminder.

Week 1 - Week Beginning 3rd November

Welcome back! It has been lovely to hear about everyone's busy half term, we wrote about our holiday news in the writing area. Thank you for attending Parent Consultations this week it was a great opportunity to share your children's amazing work we are so proud of their progress. This half term we will have more whole class sessions for the children's learning, we will also be teaching Geography and DT instead of Art and History.

English - We have started learning our new story for this half term "Little Red Riding Hood" We created the story map and looked at our first tool 'Using adjectives to describe' next week we will focus on alliteration and using the power of 3 to describe.

Maths - We have continued to learn our number bonds this week using different techniques. We focused on working 'systematically' to make sure we have found them all. Next week we will continue to revisit these skills and begin subtraction.

Science - This half term our unit is Materials. We started off by looking at different objects and identifying their materials, then we looked at rocks and described their properties.

Week 6 - Week Beginning 13th October

English - We have now finished writing our Paddington stories, the children have worked hard and have innovated their story using the story maps. Now we will edit and improve, adding illustrations.

Science - Across this half term we have learnt about the Senses. We finished off this unit this week by smelling different oils and identifying the scent.

Everyone enjoyed guessing the smells and sharing their ideas with their partner. Next half term we will look at Seasonal changes and Materials.

Maths - We have started our new unit Addition and Subtraction. First we looked at how 2 parts make a whole. We will be using the part whole model and will begin to write number sentences using + =.

Art - We have now finished our Colour Chaos unit. Our last artists were Kandinsky and Delaunay, we painted concentric circles using colours we had mixed and looked at warm and cold colours to complete a colour feelings picture.

History - Our last Significant Explorer is Neil Armstrong, we have written our favourite fact about him and then designed a stamp based on our favourite Explorer from this half term.

Next Half Term we will start Geography and DT.

Week 4 - Week Beginning 22nd September

Last week we had a special visitor to the classroom, Paddington! We started by learning the story and wrote about the school playground as our 'cold write'. Then we focused on the key skills to improve our writing - Create a simple story in which a main character goes from setting to setting on a journey, use ‘as’ and ‘like’ similes and take your character home to end the story. We will be practising these skills over the next few weeks ready for our final Paddington story. This half term our Maths focus will be Number and Place Value within 10. This week we have been practising our number formation and looking at 1 more and 1 less.

Our Science this half term is all about the body, we will be learning about each of the senses. So far we have learnt about Sight and Hearing, our next senses are taste, touch and smell.

Week 1 - Week Beginning 8th September

Welcome to Year 1, we are really proud of how well all the children have settled in. We started the week by writing our Holiday news and wrote about the school playground. In Science we drew round and measured our feet and found out who had the longest foot. In Maths we have been sorting objects in different ways. Our Art unit this half term is Colour Chaos, for our first session we learnt about the primary colours and colour mixing. We then created art work in the style of Piet Mondrian and Mark Rothko.

Meet the Teacher is on Wednesday 10th September at 5pm, come along and find out more about our learning. We look forward to seeing you smiley
