Year 1 2026-27

Welcome to Owls' and Rabbits' page, where you can find regular updates on our news and learning!

Week Beginning 5th October 2026

It has been another busy week in Year 1!

English
This week, we have been putting our imaginations to work as we write our own Paddington stories! The children have been developing their ideas, thinking carefully about what happens in their stories and practising their sentence writing. We have loved seeing their creativity shine through!

Maths
In maths, we have been practising our number formation, making sure we form our numbers correctly and carefully. Keep practising at home, too, to help build confidence and fluency!

Harvest Festival
We have been busy rehearsing our Harvest Festival songs and are looking forward to sharing them with you very soon. The children have been working hard to learn the words and actions, and we can't wait for you to see their performance!

A little reminder that we will be visiting St George's Church on Monday at 1:30pm for our Harvest Festival rehearsal. We will then return on Tuesday morning for the performance at 9:15am. We are so excited to share all our hard work with you!

Have a lovely weekend, everyone! 😊

Week Beginning 21st September 2026

We have had such a lovely couple of weeks in Year 1! The children have been busy learning, exploring and having lots of fun along the way.

Maths
In maths, we have been continuing our learning  about number and place value within 10. We have been counting, recognising numbers, finding one more and one less and thinking carefully about how numbers are made.

English
We have started our new English text all about the very special Paddington Bear! 🐻 The children have been learning the story using actions. We have also been enjoying lots of Paddington-themed activities in our continuous provision, where the children have been using their imaginations and bringing their learning into their play.

And, of course… what would Paddington be without marmalade sandwiches?! 🥪🍊 We had great fun making and trying our very own marmalade sandwiches.

Science
In Science, we have continued learning all about the human body. We have been exploring our five senses and thinking about how our senses help us to understand and explore the world around us.

Art
We have been learning about tints and exploring how adding white can change a colour. We have also been inspired by Jackson Pollock and have had lots of fun creating our own drip paintings.

Have a look at some of our lovely photos below!

Week Beginning 7th September 2026

We have had a great start to Year 1! We are so impressed at how well the children have settled in and are so proud of their progress.

English - Last week we wrote our holiday news, this week we have begun our Paddington unit by writing about adjectives and created a senses poem. Next week we will be learning the Paddington text and our tools for this unit.

Maths - This half term we will be looking at number and place value to 10. So far we have sorted numbers and counted objects during our outside provision. Next week we will begin number writing and counting on and back.

Science - This half term we are learning

about the body, we drew round our feet and investigated if the oldest child had the largest feet.
